 Wiki Etiquette

Remember that this space is monitored by your teacher and by other administrators in Baltimore County Public Schools.  In order to have a positive learning experience, in a safe and secure space, remember to always do the following:

    • Don't post personal information (phone numbers, email address, your address...), links (such as social media sites, facebook, twitter....) or photos that would jeopardize you privacy or the privacy of others.
    • Remember, information posted on the internet can stay around for a very long time, it can be copied from this Wiki and posted somewhere else within a few seconds.  See the iKeepSafe website for more information.

    • When posting images, video, audio, text or other digital media be sure to cite your source and give credit to the artist or author who created the work.
    • DON'T Plagiarize. Be honest- you should never copy someone's work and claim it as your own.
    • Ask permission, before posting someone's work or idea.

     Be Respectful

    • Remember the Golden Rule- "treat others as you wish to be treated".  Be positive, kind and thoughtful when posting comments or critiques about  someone's creative work or when responding to their opinion.
    • Be school appropriate. Follow all guidelines of the Baltimore County Public Schools Student Handbook.

     Be Prepared

    • To be engaged and to collaborate and communicate with your peers and teacher.

    • To behave in a scholarly and professional manner when posting comments or other works.
      • Use editing tools to check spelling, grammar and punctuation.
      • Read and re-read before saving and submitting your work.
      • Read and re-read before saving and submitting your work.
      • Ask a peer or parent to read your work before saving and submitting.
      • Follow all directions for the assignment.
      • Submit work on time.
    • When using or referring to a web-site, be sure to analyze the source of your references to make sure it's credible.  Ask and answer a few simple questions:
      • Who is the author or sponsor and what are the author's qualifications or credentials?

      • What type of information is provided?

      • When was the information created? Last updated or revised?

      • Where is the information coming from- is the domain an .edu, .gov, .org, etc.

      • Why is the information posted: to educate, to inform, to present unbiased views, to entertain, to sell or entice?

    • To HAVE FUN LEARNING in a new educational setting!
